Learn to Ride at MSEC

Whether you’re a beginning rider or experienced competitor looking to polish your craft, there is a place for you in MSEC’s lesson program.

Private or Semi-Private Lessons

MSEC offers private and semi-private lessons, which consist of 45 minutes riding time. Kim personally instructs beginner to advanced riding students in Hunt Seat Equitation and Jumping. Clients may use their own horse or one of our school horses. Private lessons are quite affordable and video analysis is also available. Scroll down see options.

Interested in Showing?

Director Kim Anderson is Co-President of the Central Virginia Show Jumping Association (CVSJA), whose annual series of 10 shows are held across the street at the Deep Run Show Grounds. Kim also participates in the Virginia Horse Shows Association (VHSA), Capital Horse Show Association (CHSA) and US Equestrian (USEF) Shows.

* Special Events: Some of our horse show tailgates have been called legendary, and we’ve been known to have “after work” social riding sessions for our grown-up clients!

Student Horse Use

Some riding students who have not yet purchased their own horse want to practice riding techniques outside of their weekly lessons. For these clients, MSEC makes a school horse available for a monthly fee.

Full Use Package allows the student four sessions per week. This fee is in addition to the cost of lessons. Students may also use a MSEC School horse in an off-site horse show and of course, trailering and coaching are provided as well.

Coaching

Riding students who attend horse shows and field trials receive coaching assistance from Ms. Anderson. Coaching services include oversight and strategy during pre-show warm-up on the flat and schooling (practice) over fences.

Kim provides feedback to riders during their class when show rules allow, and there’s always a full review of the student’s performance after the class. Video analysis is also available for an additional charge.

We participate in the Central Virginia Show Jumping Association (CVSJA), Virginia Horse Shows Association (VHSA), Capital Horse Show Association (CHSA), and US Equestrian (USEF) Shows.

Training

Horse training using "Natural Horsemanship" methods is available on a monthly schedule. We start young horses beginning at the age of 2 ½ and work with older horses to advance their training in ground manners and riding compatibility.

Horses are given a minimum of five hours per week actual training time. The cost of training is in addition to the required board fee.
